The Woodwork Institute has programs intended to promote education in the trade of architectural millwork by both helping educators and school administrators to develop effectice curriculum, and by providing financial aid to students of the trade through the C.E. Bernhauer, Jr. Scholarship Foundation.

Wood has been used for thousands of years as a building material for homes, bridges, fences, barns, and furniture. Building with wood is cost effective, aesthetically pleasing, and environmentally responsible. The Scholarship Foundation was created in 1997 with the intent of promoting education within the architectural millwork industry by providing financial aid for individuals pursuing careers in woodworking. Curriculum Development
The Woodwork Institute understands the importance of promoting quality education programs for the trades, especially in the wood crafts. The Institute's Educational Services Director has worked hand in hand with school administrators in California and the Western US to develop curriculum that will prepare students for successful careers in the architectural millwork industry.

Donations
In addition to helping shape curriculum and providing financial aid for those pursuing higher education, the Woodwork Institute also facilitates the donations of raw materials to schools for student use. Donated materials include: lumber, plywood, high pressure laminate, etc. The Institute also donates copies of the Manual of Millwork for instructor and student use.

Manual of Millwork
Developed and orginally implemented in 1953, the Manual of Millwork sets the standards for fabrication and installation of architectural millwork. By encouraging the use of the Manual in the classroom, the Woodwork Institute is helping to educate future woodworkers about the high standards necessary to be successful in their trade. MORE
